Job Description

Establishment Local award-winning independent Delifonseca seeks Service Chefs to be part of a busy kitchen team that services a restaurant, shop and outside catering service. We are looking for a team member that appreciates the craft of cooking and creating good honest   food and have the energy levels to be a major part of a new venture.  We are a young company looking to employ like-minded energetic staff who are passionate about good food with provenance. In 2009 Delifonseca won ‘SME’ Food Business of the Year in the Food North West Awards and the ‘Taste of Liverpool’ in the Merseyside Tourism Awards. We take all aspects of our business seriously and have also won in 2009 ‘Head Chef’ and ‘Waiter’ of the Year at the Merseyside Ambassador Awards.    

Accountable to  Head Chef

Our approach to running the business is based firmly on teamwork.  As an integral member of that team you must be willing to jump into other roles on occasion.  However your main duties will include  
  • Professionally and efficiently performing ‘service’ on a regular basis on busy shifts. 
  • Prepare and cook dishes on menus according to standards set by the Head Chef.
  • Ensure that all dishes are authentically presented by you and the rest of the kitchen team. 
  • Hands on cooking with fresh produce.
  • Instruct any new members of staff in preparation, cooking, and garnishing
  • Stock rotation to make sure necessary stock levels is kept to a minimum to maximise efficiency and avoid waste.
  • Check the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
  • Check items against delivery notes and record and address shortfalls; maintaining secure stock storage.  
  • Check the quantity and quality of received products upon delivery.
  • Explain and encourage front of house staff to taste menu
  • Maintaining high standards of  hygiene and health and safety.
  • Follow strict hygiene and cleaning rotas.
  • Keep records as required from administration.
  • Meet regularly with the Head Chef and proprietor to review performance.
  • Attend training as necessary to ensure that your own knowledge and practice is continually updated.
  • Maintain regular communication by attending team briefings and meetings.

Person specification Essential   You must have service chef experience, working with fresh produce to a high quality and high turnover. Working as part of a small team you must be adaptable, easy going and have the ability to manage other kitchen staff.

  • Passionate about and have a genuine interest in food
  • Able to describe tastes, flavours and have an understanding of what goes well to others
  • An understanding of a variety of global cuisines with an emphasis on European and Eastern Mediterranean cuisines.
  • A knowledge of traditional British foods. 
  • NVQ level 3
  • 12 months experience of working in a similar position
  Terms and Conditions Salary = negotiable dependent on skills and experience Hours of work Based on a full time week of up to 48  hours Posts will include working all days and all shifts, including only occasional split and short notice shifts
