    Responsible to: Head of Care

    Principle Responsibilities:

    • Take charge on each span of duty, responsible for the care delivered to each child. Ensure staff on duty are supported and competent in their workload
    • Provide professional advice and leadership to both clients and families
    • To assist the head of care/deputy manager in providing an efficient and effective high quality service


    Managerial:

    • To assist in ensuring staffing levels and skill mix within the team are adequate
    • Assist the Head of Care in ensuring the HealthCare Commission standards are achieved
    • Be responsible for a small team of staff, ensuring their training needs are identified and achieved. They receive annual appraisals and regular support is provided.
    • Participate and become a member of the Clinical Governance Group.



    Leadership:

    • Act as a role model to other staff ensuring good practice and a high standard of care is provided
    • To represent the establishment at multi-disciplinary and multi-agency forums



    Clinical:

    • Perform Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of Nursing care needs of each individual child and their family/carer
    • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, families and professionals across health and social services.
    • Ensure any necessary referrals and updates are recorded and sent out to appropriate services involved in the clients care.
    • Review patient caseload on a regular basis
    • Provide quality research based nursing care at all times, adhering to NMC code of Professional Conduct.
    • Ensure nursing skills are updated regularly, attending relevant study days and updates.



    Training and Education:

    • Identify learning needs for students and junior members of staff and to facilitate placements
    • To assist with the Head of Care in ensuring compliance to Mandatory training in accordance with Trust Policy
    • To be responsible for own professional development in accordance with NMC guidelines
    • Become involved in staff training days, i.e. organising speakers and sessions relevant to the workplace.



    Research and Audits:

    • To assist the head of Care in clinical audit and pilot projects. Ensuring findings are disseminated to all staff in order to improve effectiveness of patient care



    Communication:

    • Ensure effective communication is maintained between staff on each shift
    • Maintain accurate record keeping and documentation. Ensure risk assessments are reviewed regularly and staff informed of any changes
    • Attend regular staff meetings, cascade any information that may be useful to staff
    • To develop partnerships with other agencies to enhance service delivery



    Health and Safety

    • Comply with any policies, procedures or systems of work that you have been informed about
    • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or do not do.
    • Ensure you use protective equipment that is provided by Zoe’s Place Trust
    • report any hazards to the Head of Care
    • Complete accident/incident report form



    Infection Control

    • Follow all infection prevention and control policies. These policies must be adhered to by all staff to ensure clients are cared for in a clean environment and receive the highest standards of clinical care
